Health and Diet Tips - The Benefits of Drinking Water

Drinking water is one of the most beneficial ways to help your body. Not only does it cleanse your body, but it replaces vital fluids that are lost and that your body requires. The human body is mostly made up of fluids and when you lose those fluids (through sweat glands and waste removal) that fluid needs to be replaced. You can get some of that fluid back through the foods you eat (try eating a juicy watermelon, for instance), but you still need to take in clear water to make your body and efficient machine.

Drinking water when you are trying to diet is especially important. Water helps to wash away and cleanse the fat and toxins out of your body. Water also helps you to feel 'fuller' and more satisfied so that you are not apt to eat as much food. When you have a craving, drinking a glass of water can help to curb it.

You should begin each day by drinking at least one glass of water. When you wake up in the morning, go to the bathroom and drink a glass of water before you do anything else. The water helps to get your digestive juices flowing and it lubricates the inside of your body. Drinking water at this stage will help you not eat as much at breakfast as well. Upon waking, your body may crave food because it has been working all night digesting food and using energy to do that. Therefore, you may tend to overeat at breakfast. Drinking a glass of water before you eat can help you with that. You can still have your coffee or tea, but have the water beforehand.

Again, drinking a glass of water before every meal will help you not eat as much. The water tends to fill you up so that you don't have the tendency to overeat. Besides, it has been recommended (and you have probably heard this a thousand times) that you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you have one before every meal, that is half the battle won already.

It is better and healthier to drink a glass of clear water instead of turning to those others liquids you may choose to drink. Those other drinks may include sweetened pop or bottled drinks. Water, naturally, means fewer calories, but it is also easier on your kidneys and liver to process. (Think of the state of an alcoholic's liver and kidneys, and make the connection for the processing of all liquids through your body.)

Take bottles of water with you everywhere you do. You can see many people holding a coffee in a paper cup, but water is better for you. Carry a bottle of water in your purse or briefcase. Then you have it on hand whenever you are thirsty or may feel hungry. You can easily drink the 8 glasses of water recommended if you are constantly sipping on water all day. You do not have to drink the 8 glasses of water all at one time.

Just as an added note, it is believed that COLD water helps to speed up your metabolism. Digesting the cold water is thought to burn up more calories. So go ahead and add those ice cubes to your glass of water.

If you find plain water boring and tiring to drink all the time, you can make it a little more flavorful by adding a splash of lemon or lime to it. Or you can make a cup of herbal tea with water and drink it hot or cold.

Water is the one thing you can count on that has no calories. By replacing one can of soda or pop per day that you may normally drink with water, you can reduce your calorie intake for a week by 1,000 calories. Doing this would help you lose a bit more than a pound per month. Not bad, eh?

Water is nature's most natural resource and is necessary to keep your body in optimal running order. Whether you are trying to lose weight or simply just want to be healthier, including more water in your daily routine is definitely recommended.
